satyrn.ai Code of Conduct¶

We aim to make our community welcoming, safe, and respectful.

We are committed to fostering an environment that respects and promotes the dignity, rights, and contributions of all individuals. Of course, such a diversity of contributors will lead to a diversity of perspectives. Healthy disgreement will naturally occur, but disagreement is never an excuse for aggression. Our Code of Conduct (CoC) is an effort to ensure a safe space for all contributions. Please take this document in the spirit it is intended, rather than an exhustive list of permitted of prohibited behaviours.

Expected Behaviours¶

We agree to behave mindfully toward each other and act in ways that centre our shared values, including:

Being friendly and welcoming.
Engaging kindly and honestly with others.
Respecting different viewpoints and experiences.
Interacting and communicating with patience and empathy.
Taking responsibility for our actions and contributions.
Gracefully giving and accepting constructive feedback.
Committing to repairing harm when it occurs.
Respecting consent and boundaries. If someone says "no", asks you to stop, or sets a boundary, respect it immediately and without debate.

Impact matters more than intent. Even when harm is unintentional, we are all responsible for the impact of our words and actions. If someone tells you that your behavior has caused harm, listen with empathy and take responsibility for making things right. This doesn't always mean a formal process is necessary, often clear communication will resolve an issue. If formal action is needed, please see the Reporting section below.

Inappropriate Behaviours¶

The following are violations of this Code of Conduct (this is not an exhaustive list):

Harassment - violating expressed boundaries or engaging in unwanted personal attention
Character attacks - insulting or demeaning comments directed at a community member or group
Stereotyping - characterising anyone's personality or behaviour on the basis of their identity or traits
Microaggressions - subtle behaviours or comments that communicate hostile or derogatory attitudes toward marginalised groups
Sexualisation - behaving in a way that would be considered inappropriately intimate
Violating confidentiality - sharing someone's private information without permission, including doxxing
Violent behaviours - causing, encouraging, or threatening violence or harm toward any person or group
Discouraging involvement - acting in ways that push others out of the community
Repeated, unsolicited, and unwelcome DMs - sending uninvited direct messages to community members
Retaliation - taking adverse action against someone for making a CoC report

Community members asked to stop any inappropriate behaviour are expected to comply immediately.

Reporting¶

If you witness or experience a violation, please report it to the CoC team: Report an incident to the CoC Team

All reports will be handled with confidentiality and care.

The organising team currently serves as the CoC team, until the CoC committee is seated.

Consequences¶

Violations may result in the following, depending on severity and context:

Warning: a private written warning from the CoC team
Temporary limited access: a cooldown period from specific channels or interactions
Temporary suspension: removal from community spaces for a defined period
Permanent ban: removal from all community spaces

The CoC team will use their discretion and judgement in all cases. This ladder is a guideline, not a rigid formula.

Enforcement¶

The Code of Conduct team will enforce the Code of Conduct for the community's health.

Scope¶

This Code of Conduct applies to all community spaces including our Discord server, project repositories, and any other spaces administered by SatyrnAI. It also applies when individuals are officially representing the community in public.

Attribution¶

This Code of Conduct is primarily adapted from the Django Code of Conduct, which is itself adapted from the Contributor Covenant v3.0. Additional reference was drawn from the EuroPython Society Code of Conduct, the Python Software Foundation Code of Conduct, and the Jupyter Code of Conduct.

All are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution.
